About Spotify
Spotify is a music streaming service used by millions. Since launching podcasts in 2018, the popularity of podcasts has exploded and now constitutes an increasing share of their business.
After significant growing pains, Spotify worked with Dakai to develop an internal podcast management system which is used to track every podcast from the initial idea to its release on the platform.
The Situation
Initially, Spotify used Excel sheets to manage the podcast workflow. As their podcast business grew, this system quickly fell apart and created a bottleneck in their business. Growth was limited by the ability of their team to scale up their workflow and productivity slowed. With ambitions to be the top podcast platform in the industry, a new system was needed to drive growth.
The Results
The developed system enabled Spotify to become one of the biggest players in the podcast industry and is being used by 600+ employees from various departments within the company. It expanded available podcasts from just 185,000 to over 3.6 million as of March 2022.
The Technical Details
Dakai flew to Los Angeles to work onsite with end-users to create a system that could be used by multiple branches of the company
Looking Ahead
The system enabled Spotify to become one of the biggest players in the podcast industry and is being used by 600+ employees from various departments within the company. As of 2022, Spotify had over 32 million listeners and 3.6 million podcasts, surpassing Apple in popularity.
